Justice should re-examine Clinton probe

Veteran FBI counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok has been pulled out of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of alleged Russian meddling in our election, it was revealed during the weekend. Strzok reportedly was involved in an exchange of text messages that showed bias against President Donald Trump.

But if his dislike for Trump was severe enough to require dismissing him from the current probe, what about the one in which he was a key figure last year?

Yes, the FBI probe of whether then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had broken the law by using a private email server while secretary of state.

Strzok was among agents who interviewed Clinton about the matter. You will recall then-FBI Director James Comey admitted Clinton had broken the law — but dropped the probe anyway.

A Justice Department inspector general has been looking into the Clinton investigation. He should focus on whether bias in Clinton’s favor was a factor in the probe being dropped.
