Pelosi right with recommendation about aid to Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands

It is rare, but sometimes House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is right. She is this week, in calling for deployment of more military resources to aid the hurricane-ravaged islands of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Pelosi, D-Calif., made the recommendation Monday, as more information was becoming available regarding the extent of damage done by two hurricanes to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, both U.S. territories. Large swaths of both islands have been devastated, in the literal meaning of that word.

Some military resources, primarily aircraft and ships, already are at work helping residents of the two territories. More, perhaps including boots on the ground, should be dispatched.

Residents of both islands are U.S. citizens. As Pelsoi put it, they deserve to know their fellow Americans will be there to help them.
