Business Expo perfect excuse to get out of the house
Seventeen years ago the advertising manager of The Alpena News convinced newspaper staffers that we could perform a public service by filling a need the community had at that time — sponsoring an expo that would showcase regional businesses.
That first expo not only was a success, it has created one of those events in the community where people now know to circle the first Saturday of February every year on their calendars. No, the groundhog doesn’t come out that day for this, but residents know that first Saturday will be time again for another Business Expo.
Saturday will mark the day for this year’s event, which again will be one of the best shows ever. The floor of the APlex will be covered with nearly 50 vendors offering everything from insurance to honey, real estate opportunities to paint colors. It is the perfect venue to learn more about what the various businesses offer, as well as get excited about how diverse and unique those businesses are in Northeast Michigan.
And, what would an expo be these days without our Newspaper in Education book sale, where all the revenue raised goes right back into the newspaper’s NIE program which provides certain classrooms across our region with free newspapers for students. Teachers appreciate those newspapers, for not only do they help students with reading skills and keep them updated on their current events, but newspapers also can be used for science and math projects.
By now everyone needs an excuse to get out and about on the weekend to escape that winter weather. We guarantee Business Expo will be the place to be in Alpena Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
See you there.
