Time for healing in Rogers City

We don’t know whether former Rogers City wrestling Coach Patrick Lamb deserved being terminated or not, but we know that decision has left a lot of people in the community hurting.

The board of education decided months ago to dismiss Lamb. Monday, the body agreed to reconsider that decision and heard public comment regarding it. After weighing the testimony and considering the issue, ultimately they agreed to uphold the original dismissal and not reverse their ruling.

“It’s an extremely difficult situation that took place, and many people in the community are affected by this,” board President John Krajenta said. “The board feels this is the best decision for Rogers City Area Schools moving forward.”

Although Superintendent Dave O’Bryant had no vote in the board’s decision, ironically it was he in his role of athletic director last school year who originally terminated Lamb as wrestling coach.

Rogers City always has been known for its excellent wrestling program, and Lamb for many years guided that program to many success stories. While he and his supporters were hoping to transfer some of that success to his re-instatement efforts, Monday’s board decision effectively ends that effort.

Because Lamb was a popular community figure, it makes the decision that much harder.

However, for everyone’s sake it is time now to let the healing begin.
