Good luck to Relay for Life participants

If you were to ask around, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t been touched by cancer. Young, old, rich, poor – we all know someone who has either battled cancer, or had a loved one who has.

While we are closer to finding a cure than just a generation ago, the search continues. People continue to battle cancer and hope for a cure.

That’s why events like this weekend’s Alpena County Relay for Life are so important. They raise funds and they raise awareness. As a society we need to be vigilant as it takes all of us to help the research, and more importantly to help those who are battling cancer.

Beginning at 10 a.m. today community members will be taking part in Relay for Life, all will have been touched by cancer in some way with many of them being cancer survivors themselves. There will be laughter, smiles and likely a few tears all in the name of finding a cure.

Relay for Life Community representative Molly Paquin told The News in a story Friday that the day will be about gathering people together in solidarity, to support, to discuss and to encourage everyone involved that there is hope.

We wish all the participants in Relay for Life a good day, and encourage everyone not taking part in the walk to stop by for one of the many events and offer their support in some manner.

The battle is far from over, but great strides are being made. Let’s all do our part to help find a cure.
