Edward H. Avery, 76, of Alpena passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018.

Edward was born on July 29, 1941, in Wellington Township to the late Orville and Marie (Kollien) Avery. He was raised as a farm boy and attended school in Hillman. On Jan. 28, 1961, Edward married the love of his life, Mary DeCaire. Edward worked as a mason and retired from Alpena General Hospital. Whether he was fishing or hunting, chasing bear with his hounds or tending to his honey bees, Edward loved spending time outdoors.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary; their children, Mark (Gail) Avery, Jeff (Mary Beth) Avery, Tammy (Rick) Klis; John (Evelyn) Avery; 10 grandchildren, Bradley (Christin) Avery, Renee (Wally) Roznowski, Daniel (Rebecca) Avery, Sarah (Cody) Tebo, Mary (fiance David Srebnik) Klis, Julie (Kevin) Tran, Megan, Noah, Chasity, Allie; eight great-grandchildren; his sisters, Beatrice Rhode, and Gertrude (Martin) Schleben; sister-in-law, Mable Avery; brother-in-law, Carl Kreft; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Avery was preceded in death by brothers, William and Gary; sister, Lucy Kreft; and two infant brothers.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and will continue Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Erickson officiating.
