EDWIN SUSZEK

Edwin Suszek, 98, of Alpena died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center of Alpena.

Ed was born Sept. 22, 1919 in Alpena to the late Francis and Frances (Marshall) Suszek. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII where he served during the Pacific Theatre at Saipan and Tinian in the Marshall Islands while attached to an anti-aircraft company.

Ed married the love of his life Alice Chrzan on Sept. 1, 1941 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Alpena. He retired from National Gypsum after 37 years. Ed enjoyed his retired years pursuing whitetail out to camp, playing cribbage and poker, and rooting for the Detroit Tigers as a super fan.

Ed is survived by Alice his wife of 76 years; two sons. Rick (Sue) Suszek, Gary (Mary) Suszek; three grandchildren, Naia, Rheanne, Janine; two sisters, Ceil, Ann, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson Adam; and his siblings, Theodore, Stanley “Patch,” Joseph and Irene.

Visitation will be at McWilliams Funeral Home of Alpena from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 with military honors starting at 6 p.m. and continue Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church of Alpena Catholic Community from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Fitzpatrick officiating.
