Barbara Sue Manning, 79, of Hubbard Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at Mission Point of Holly.

Barbara was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Ferndale, Mich., to Elwyn and Eileen (Dice) Hunt. She married Roger Manning on Sept. 24, 1988. He preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2016. Barb was an active member of the Alpena County Horsemen’s Club, North Eastern Michigan Association of Horse Clubs and Northern Michigan Beef Breeders Association. During Barb and Roger’s retirement they both enjoyed traveling to many interesting destinations.

Surviving are seven children, Robin Acton of Orion Twp., Mich., Janice (Mike) Hemgesberg of New Lothrup, Mich., Vicki (Fred) Schmittka of Orion Twp., Mich., Daniel (Carol) Acton of Lapeer Harold (Sherlyn) Manning of Alpena, Tammy (Mark) Aube of Ossineke, Kim (Bob) Aube of Ossineke; 17 grandchildren, Janelle Van Sipe, Jessie Acton, Brittany Robinson, DeShawn Robinson, Dominique Robinson, Aaron Hemgesberg, Adam Hemgesberg, Shane Swan, Shauna Swan, Mitchell Acton, Cole (Katelyn) Acton, Kyle Acton, Stacy (Ken) Davis, Rebecca Schmittka,Travis (Angela) Manning, Crystal (Nate) Seelye, Stacy (Josh, Jr.) Wojda, Kayla (Vince) Sobek; and 21 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Don Scolfield of Sterling Heights, Mich. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Ann Swan, two grandsons, Travis Daniel Acton, Daniel James Acton and a sister, Faye Meadows.

Barbara Manning is at McWilliams Funeral Home-Alpena where friends may call on Friday from 2-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hubbard Lake from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Llewellyn officiating. Interment will be at Wolf Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Bell Tower Fund. Online condolences may be registered at
