BARBARA ANN SPRAGG

Barbara Ann Spragg, 72, of Alpena and Marco Island, Fla., received her “Victory In The Lord” on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, when she passed away at Naples (Fla.) Community Hospital. Barb was surrounded by her husband and daughters. Born in Hale, Mich., she spent her early years in Oscoda and then moved to Alpena to finish High School. She and her husband, Gary married in 1964 and spent their “working years” primarily in Midland, Mich. Barb served as a Midland City Police Officer as well as a Loving Homemaker for her husband and children. After retirement, she returned to Alpena where she was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Over the years, Barb also gained much satisfaction from her ‘helping hand” with Alpena General Hospital, Spratt United Methodist Church, and the Jesse Besser Museum. She also worked hard and enjoyed raising funds for Children of Vietnam Veterans thru the Agent Orange Riders — Chapter 1 organization. In addition to her husband, Gary L. Spragg and daughters, Debra Baak of Marco Island, Fla., and Sonia (Brent) Taylor of Boise, Idaho, Barb will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Kelsey (Cory) McKague, Connor Baak, Noah Taylor, and Isabel Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mildred (Gruber) Charters; brother Richard Charters, Sr.; and “special” grandson, Simon Michael Taylor. Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Marco Island Residents Beach from 3 to Sunset. Sandals, shorts, and bright T-shirts required. A Memorial Service will be held in mid-July 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alpena with Pastor Shirley Ross-Jones officiating. Details will be announced. Donations in Barb’s memory may be made to Paul Lutheran Church – R&R, 727 South Second Ave, Alpena, MI 49707 or Vietnam Veterans of America – Agent Orange Riders, P.O. 792, Alpena, MI 49707.
