Jerry Kindt 78, passed away peacefully at home Nov. 27, 2017, with his wife Beverly and family by his side.

Jerry was born on Dec. 14, 1938, to the late Ervin and Dolly (Robarge) Kindt of Alpena. He married his soulmate, Beverly, on May 20, 1989, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Jerry graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Social Science. He was the Director of the Alpena County Social Services for 38 years, retiring in 1997. Jerry served in the United States Army and National Guard.

Jerry loved the outdoors, he was an avid fly fisherman. He tied his own flies and crafted his own bamboo fishing rod. He enjoyed fishing the Au Sable with his wife and brother, Bob. He was a beautiful wood carver of birds and painting them. He was a self-taught artist. Jerry enjoyed playing his acoustic guitar, and a challenge to learn with his brother, Bill. Jerry loved cookies. His two sisters, Lori and Linda, kept a steady supply coming to him during his illness.

Jerry will be remembered for being a wonderful and kind husband, father, brother and the best “Papa.” He absolutely loved being with his nine grandchildren, having fun and sharing his wisdom with all of them.

Surviving are his wife Beverly; son, Matthew (Courtney) Kindt; daughters, Sabrina Johnson, Amy Johnson, Cindy (Jim) Handrich; nine grandchildren, Travis, Andrew, Meghan, Noah, Gabe, James, Maddie, Sophie and Lucy; two brothers, Bob (Carol) Kindt, Bill (Barbra) Kindt; two sisters, Linda (Greg) LaHaie, Lori (Mark) Muszynski; brother-in-law, Rod (Beryl) Rondeau; sister-in-law, Sible (Elmer) Banks; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Janet.

Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 12 p.m. until time of memorial service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Brad Matuzak officiating.
