Robert “Bob” James Motley, Sr., 67, of Alpena, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at home.

Bob was born Jan. 24, 1950, in Alpena to the late Eugene and Mildred (Miller) Motley. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On Sept. 30, 1972, he married Brenda Ferguson in Manassas, Va. Bob was employed at Quest Industrial as a shipping clerk. He loved the outdoors, especially when he was able to hunt and fish. Also, he loved to ride his tractor planting the fields. The only thing that made that ride more enjoyable was when there were grandchildren with him.

Surviving is his loving wife of 45 years, Brenda; three children, Robert J. (Kelsey) Motley II of Alpena, James A (partner – Rick) Motley of Towson, Md., Matthew (Jeannie Colby – fiance) Motley of Alpena; seven grandchildren, Marrisa, Hayley, Connie, Hayden, Aspyn, Victoria, Amelia, Xavier; four siblings, Ann Linnemann of Oscoda, Mich., Carol Marchlewski of Bay City, Mich., Mary Bushe (Paul) of St. Claire Shores, Mich., Tom (Vicky) Motley of Rockingham, N.C.; father in-law, Bill Ferguson; four brothers, Bill Jr. (Tina) Ferguson, Wade (Darlene) Ferguson, Rick (Tina) Ferguson, John (Mary) Ferguson; many nieces and nephews, and a dear family friend, Judy Taracks. He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Laundry and a brother, Eugene Motley.

Family and friends will gather at McWilliams Funeral Home – Alpena on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Hank Kott officiating. Online condolences may be registered at
