Modesta Marie Harrison, 80, of Alpena passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at her home.

Modesta Marie Jackowiak was born in Alpena on March 9, 1937, to the late Walter and Lucille (Halleck) Jackowiak and married Trueman Harrison on Jan. 26, 1957. He preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 2009. Modesta was the editor for the Alpena News Lifestyle page, retiring in 2000. In her retirement, she began the “Remembering When” column. She received outstanding recognition in 1975 from Alpena V.F.W. Post 2496 for her support to veterans, and was a board member of the Senior Citizens Center. Modesta enjoyed quilting, spending time gardening, and played saxophone in the City Band. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at her home on Long Lake following her retirement.

Surviving are her six children, Kathleen Linder, Barbara (Edward) Chandler, Debbie Harrison-Trelfa, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Harrison, Michael Harrison, David Harrison; son-in-law, Willie Habel; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; four siblings, Donna (Dale) Himes, Walter (Sue) Jackowiak, Joe (Marla) Jackowiak, and Mary (Mark) Cole.

Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Habel; brother, Richard Jackowiak; and sister, Barbara Simpson.

Memorial visitation will take place at TriPoint Church of God-Alpena on Friday, Oct. 20, from 11 a.m. until the memorial service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Michael Potter officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
