MARY H. BUTCH
Mary Butch, age 89, of Alpena and Ossineke, passed away peacefully on Sept. 19,
2017, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Mary is survived by her daughter Priscilla Olsen (David) of Saline, Mich.; son Gregory Butch (Linda) of Harrison Twp., Mich.; son Gerald Butch (Diane) of Cape Coral, Fla.; granddaughter Stefanie Holmes (Jordan) of Hampton, N.J.; grandson Trevor Olsen of Montreal, Canada; sister Jane Kotz of Pleasant Lake, Mich.; sister Phyllis Thorner of Standish, Mich.; sister-in-law Judy Greniuk of Pinconning, Mich.; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Preceding Mary in death was her beloved husband Steven S. Butch, brother Mitchell Greniuk, brother Albert Greniuk; sister Albina Kotz; and Allan Kinney who was a very close friend and longtime companion.
Mary was born on Jan. 24, 1928 to the late Andrew and Anastasia Greniuk in Detroit, Mich. Mary’s family that included five brothers and sisters, eventually moved to a dairy farm in Arenac County. On Feb. 7, 1948, she married Steven and they relocated to Alpena to start a family business. Consolidated Fruit Distributors, and to raise their family on the banks of the beautiful Thunder Bay River. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, the League of Catholic Women, the Lake Winyah Club, the Alpena Yacht Club. The Alpena Garden Club, and the Alpena Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Mary had a talent for artistic floral arranging and gardening that led to making floral arrangements for the hospital gift shop and wining many awards for growing various species of roses, dahlias and iris flowers. Mary also exhibited a great sense of style that was on display when she modeled clothes for her friends at County Cousins and the Grace Howe Shop. Above all, Mary was an amazing chef and baker, creating delicious ethnic dishes from the Ukraine as well as other family favorites. Mary enjoyed 31 winters in Ft. Myers, Fla., growing orchids, playing golf, traveling and cruising the Caribbean.
Family and friends will celebrate her life at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church in Standish, Mich., on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Resurrection of the Lord Cemetery. The family has requested that Memorial donations may be designated to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Relief in lieu of sending flowers. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee Ramsay Funeral Home – Standish Chapel.
