ROBERT J. MURPHY

Robert J. “Bob Murphy Sr., 68, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena, surrounded by his family.

On Nov. 1, 1948, Robert was born in Alpena, Mich., to the late James and Norma (Spicer) Murphy. He married Diane Kinsel on May 6, 1972, at S.t Paul Lutheran Church. Robert served in the U.S. Army, with the 101 Airborne, during the Vietnam War. Bob was a Truck Driver for several years, and a man of many talents. He was a proud member of the Agent Orange Riders, the American Legion, and St. Bernard Catholic Church. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family friends, and had a passion for classic cars.

He is survived by his loving wife Diane of 45 years; their son Thomas (Samantha) Murphy of Alpena, Mich.; granddaughter Lilith; sister Carolyn (Norman) Brown of Ossineke, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews, and his children from the heart: Nicole McMurdy, James Riddle, and many others.

Family and friends will gather for memorial visitation at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Friday, July 7, 2017, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Memorial Service begins with Fr. James Fitzpatrick officiating at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home. Followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Agent Orange Riders or the Vietnam Veterans.
