Beverly Jane Joy was welcomed into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on July 15, 2017 at home. She was born on June 20, 1939, in Alpena to Ronald and Genevieve (Edgley) Johnson. On Oct. 26, 1957, she married David Joy in Alpena.

Beverly graduated from Alpena High School in 1957. She served in many roles through the years as an active member of Word of Life Baptist Church, including church historian. Bev also was the founder of the Mothers of Twins Club. She worked for the Alpena Public Schools for 25 years, retiring in 1998. She was a tireless encourager and cheerleader to countless young people, long after they left the school corridors.

She is survived by her husband David; her four children, Carla Joy of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Barbara (Joseph) Diedrich of Knoxville, Tenn.; Robert (Pamela) Joy of Minneapolis, Minn. and Scott (Linda) Joy of Alpena, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, Timothy (Lindsay) Diedrich, Thomas (Jessica) Diedrich, Sarah (Nathan) Stewart, Lisa Diedrich, Taylor Joy, Jenna Joy, Ryan Joy, Braden Joy, Joshua (Jessica) Joy, Katelynn (Daniel) Moffatt; 12 great-grandchildren, Layken, Luke, Abby, Isaac, Tyler, Daniel, Benjamin, Samuel, Daphne, Hazel, William and Lark; and two brothers, Irving (Mary) Johnson and Wayne (Kathy) Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Jessica Joy; her brothers, Kenneth and Clayton Johnson; and a sister, Irma Wysocki.

Beverly is at the Bannan Funeral Home where visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at Word of Life Baptist Church, Alpena from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Scott A. Joy officiating.
