ALVIN A. GAPCZYNSKI

Alvin A. Gapczynski, age 93, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.

On May 26, 1924, Alvin was born to the late Anthony and Martha (Skiba) Gapczynski in Alpena, Mich. He served in the United States Air Force under the Coast Artillery division and was the radioman for a B-17 during WWII. On April 8, 1944, he married Theodora “Theo” Parsons in Sioux Falls, S.D. They were married for 73 years, before she preceded him in death on April 14, 2017. Alvin worked for the Besser Company for 44 years, retiring in 1986. He was a former member of the V.F.W., Knights of Columbus, Board of Trustees for Besser Credit Union, and St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish.

He is survived by his three children: James (Dorine) Gapczynski of Ann Arbor, Mich., Nancy (Mark) Skevington of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and “Jack” John Gapczynski of Alpena, Mich; four grandchildren: Christopher and Andrew Geary, Jaclynn Gapczynski, and Anthony (Elise) Gapcznski; several nieces and nephews.

Alvin was preceded in death by his daughter Jane Allen; three brothers, John, Edward and Joseph Gapczynski; his three sisters, Clara Modglin, Gertrude Hawkins, and Rita Connon.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Thursday, July 6, 2017, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home with a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 7, 2017, at St. Bernard Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial begins with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery
