Dora Wegmeyer, 88, died on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 at Tendercare Alpena.
Dora was born to the late John and Amanda (Schroeder) Degner on Oct. 22, 1928. An only child, Dora was raised on a small farm in Wilson Township. Carl Wegmeyer and Dora were married Nov. 17, 1960. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1998. She was an accomplished seamstress and crocheted beautifully. Many family members and friends were gifted with her outstanding crocheted items from doilies to a bedspread. Dora worked for Alpena Garment Factory and retired from Detroit Gasket-Indianhead Industries.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Lucille Wegmeyer of East China, Mich., Lydia Wegmeyer of Gaylord and 33 nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Fred and Cora Bey, Harold and Elaine Wegmeyer, Russell and Helen Rensberry, Louis and Ruth Wegmeyer, Norman and Georgia Wegmeyer, Willis Wegmeyer and Glenn Wegmeyer.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Llewellyn officiating. Interment at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery will take place in the spring.
