Sandra “Sandy” Marie Buza, 63 of Alpena, died on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, surrounded by family members at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena.

Sandy was born May 29, 1953, in Flint, Mich., to Daniel and Helen (Thibault) Kendziorski and after graduation from Rogers City High School in 1971 spent most her life in the Bay City area. She moved to Alpena in April of 2016 to be closer to her northern Michigan family. She was employed by the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw as a social worker and spent many years as a youth minister. Her “alone time” was spent reading and pursuing ancestry questions and information. That time was very limited as she loved to spend time with her family, especially the grandchildren, who called her “Bicky,” and her numerous friends. In her short time in Alpena she became a loved and valuable member of the Wednesday Night Dinner Group, which gathered for dinner at various local restaurants. Sandy will be fondly remembered by the many lives that were so privileged to have known her.

Surviving are her four children, Aaron (Kari) Buza of Alpena, Mary Buza of Gurnee, Ill., Jennifer Buza of Big Rapids, Mich., Matthew (Jennifer) Buza of Petoskey, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Courtland, Chloe, Zachary, Regan, Haley, Zoe, Olivia; her mother, Helen Kendziorski and the late Daniel Kendziorski of Alpena; two sisters, Karen (Wayne) McWilliams of Alpena, Lynn Kendziorski of Blue Ridge, Ga.; a brother, Daniel Kendziorski of Oscoda, Mich., and her faithful four-legged companion who gave her so much pleasure, Maude.

Sandy Buza is at McWilliams Funeral Home – Alpena where friends may call on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, from 2-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Fitzpatrick officiating. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring. Online condolences may be registered at
