Claude G. Hubert, 90, of Elmwood, Ill., formerly of Hillman was called home Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at his home in Elmwood.

Claude was born on March 6, 1926, in Hillman to the late Fred and Eva (Fournier) Hubert. During his lifetime, Claude was stationed with the United States Army in North Carolina, owned Hubert Tractor Sales, partnered with his brother, Bernard, in Curly Log Homes, was employed by Montmorency County Road Commission, and was caretaker of the Coal City Area Club. He was also a member of St. Augustine Catholic Parish and the Hillman Knights of Columbus. On Oct. 18, 1981, he married Harriet Canfield. Claude will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his skill in working on tractors and engines, his love of telling stories, and his ability to start fires.

Surviving are his wife, Harriet; 11 children, Fred Hubert, Wendy Sue (Dennis) Garrison, Cindy (Jerry) Beadle, Janette (Randy) Stoinski, Bill (Donna) Hubert, Tom (Tammy) Hubert, Joyce (Roy) Beadle, Alan Hubert, Claude “Bozo” Hubert, Charles (Renee) Hubert, and Jeni Kenyon; four step children, Tracy Provence, Denise (Chris) Waggoner, Julie (Jim) Foster, Keith (Judy) Provence; 36 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Stacia Hubert; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hubert was preceded in death by the mother of his 12 children, Betty Romel; his infant daughter, Claudia Jo; infant grandchild; stepson, Carl Provence; seven siblings, Barb Redmond, Curly, Clare, Vincent, Clement, Loretta “Snorts” Hubert, and Bernard.

Mr. Hubert is at the Bannan Funeral Home – Hillman where visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until time of mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael P. Conner officiating.
