∫ ALPENA — The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education approved a bid from Musco Sports Lighting for Wildcat Stadium lights at $28,500 for four 30-foot, candle-system lights and an addendum bid of $3,556 to adjust and aim existing lights.

The board approved hiring Instructional Assistants JoLee Greer and Peggy Josey and Alpena High School teacher Emilyn Doe and accepted resignations from Director of Transportation & Maintenance Kenneth McInerney and Instructional Assistant Jessica Pelto.

∫ ATLANTA — The Atlanta Community Schools Board of Education accepted a letter of resignation from baseball coach Lonny Kent and approved bills for November totaling $429,467.

The board also approved an IT Director Memorandum of Understanding with Hillman Community Schools. Superintendent Carl Seiter, who runs both Hillman and Atlanta schools, said IT Director Michael Probert, who already works for Hillman, will now also work at Atlanta one day a week.

Both Atlanta and Hillman extended Seiter’s contract to the 2020-21 school year.

∫ HILLMAN — The Hillman Community Schools Board of Education approved looking into bids for three propane buses under a rebate program. The district also has to see if it can be approved for a 40-percent federal rebate on the propane buses, which would make the cost of the buses cheaper.

The board also approved the resignation of Bus Supervisor Michael Needham and voted to hire a long-term kindergarten teacher because of a larger kindergarten class.

∫ ALPENA — The Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District Board of Education on Thursday approved the resignation of Assistant Superintendent of Non-Instructional Services Tony Suszek, effective June 30.

The board also voted to purchase two copy machines for $17,956 and voted to enter into maintenance agreements with Miller Office Machines for the copy machines.

The board also approved a budget amendment with changes in the general fund revenue because of a decrease in state sources from the Great Start Readiness Program Preschool Grant, an increase in federal sources, and a decrease in other transactions from a reduction in services provided to districts. Other changes in general fund expenditures were decreases in instructional services, business, and technology, based on staffing, a decrease in the GSRP program, and the Great Start Collaborative based on grant funding, and an increase in leadership and governance based on staffing and training costs.

∫ ALPENA — The Alpena Community College Board of Trustees was notified by President Don MacMaster that the Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget approved the 400-level design documents for the Van Lare Hall renovation.

The board also went through the first reading of new mission and goals. The new mission and goals will be discussed further at the board’s next meeting on Wednesday.
