A secret Santa returns

ALPENA — Counting their collections from red kettle bell-ringers on Friday, Salvation Army Maj. Kevin Cedervall found four $100 bills wrapped together with a paperclip. Later, volunteer Alberta Martin found another bundle in another kettle, then Capt. Amy Cedervall found another … Eventually, the four bundles shown here were discovered.

It marks the third year in a row that a mysterious, anonymous benefactor has dropped off the bundles in red kettles around town, the Salvation Army said in a news release.

“We are overwhelmed by the support that we receive from our community,” Kevin Cedervall said. “People like this donor make our services available all year round. We would love to thank the donor in person but want this amazing person to know that we are really blessed by their generosity and care for their neighbors.”
