A “whimsical, Dr. Seuss-themed breakfast” at 7 a.m. Friday at the APlex, 701 Woodward Ave., will kick off the United Way of Northeast Michigan’s annual fundraising campaign.

Proceeds from the breakfast, part of the Alpena Chamber of Commerce’s Good Morning Alpena series of events, will benefit the United Way. WBKB-TV news anchor and reporter Elijah Baker will emcee the event and businesses who have already launched workplace fundraising efforts will be recognized.

“Funds raised from the kickoff breakfast will be used to support more than one dozen charities and nonprofit organizations that serve struggling families and low-income individuals that live in Alcona, Alpena and Montmorency counties,” Sonya Thomas, the United Way’s executive director, said in a news release.

Contact the Chamber at 989-354-4181 or info@alpenachamber.com to reserve tickets for the breakfast. For more information on the United Way and its campaign, call 989-345-2221.
