ALPENA –The Alpena Community College Foundation’s “Healthy Futures Start Here” capital campaign has received an $80,000 donation from mBank, the foundation said in a news release.

The fundraising campaign is to help renovate Van Lare Hall, the oldest building on Alpena Community College’s main campaus, to provide updated technology and space for the school’s nursing program. The project will include a $1 million, state-of-the-art simulation learning lab. The school has raised $6.6 million of the $8.7 million estimated cost for the project.

The recent donation will earn mBank naming rights to four of the rooms in the new nursing wing.

“We have received overwhelming support from local businesses and individuals that we have met with as early contributors to the project,” ACC Foundation Executive Director Brenda Herman said in the release. “They see the need and understand the value it adds to the college and the community.”

“Alpena Community College is an invaluable asset in Northeast Michigan. This donation is an investment back into our community and in the ACC students to help them achieve their goals,” Mike Mahler, mBank executive vice president and managing director of community banking and administration, said in the release. “When local businesses support the college through not only monetary donations but also mentorships, internships, and employment, we are all helping to build a brighter and more vibrant community together.”
