Alpena-area school board races shaping up

ALPENA — Candidates have filed to run for area school boards in November general election.

Alpena Public Schools will have three people running for reelection: Jackie Krawczak, Thomas Hilberg, and Ned Heath.

Krawczak, who is currently the APS board vice president, was elected in the November 2014 general election. Both Hilberg and Heath were appointed to the APS board last summer.

Alcona Community Schools will have two people running for reelection: Charles Spitznagel and Joel Blohm. Spitznagel is currently the board secretary while Blohm is board treasurer.

Atlanta Community Schools will aave four people running for reelection: John Kaszonyi, Doris Smith, Joseph Soncrainte, and Cody Stevens. Smith is currently board secretary and Soncrainte is currently the board treasurer.

Stevens and Kaszonyi were both appointed to the board in the last year: Stevens was appointed in December and Kaszonyi in April.

Hillman Community Schools will have five people running for reelection: Kelly Burwell, Leslie Cook, Jack Matthias, Lorilee McGee, and Craig Zimmer.

Burwell is currently Hillman’s board president. Cook was appointed to the board in September and McGee in October.

The Presque Isle County Clerk did not respond to messages requesting the list of candidates for Onaway Area Schools, Posen Consolidated Schools, and Rogers City Area Schools.

The general election is on Nov. 6.
