Alcona Health Center offering free produce on Wednesday

ALPENA — From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 15, the Alcona County Health Center will be host a free produce event.

In order to promote improved nutrition and better health within the community, the Health Center is partnering with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to provide produce to the community.

The event is free and open to everyone. People will have a variety of in-season produce to choose from. Officials ask that you bring your own bag or box to collect the produce, and it will run as long as supplies last, first-come, first-serve.

Alcona Health center is located at 1185 U.S.-23 N. in Alpena. The event will be held outside the center in the parking lot.

In addition to free produce, the health center will have their dietician available to the public for questions, and they will be distributing diet-related information. They will have educational resources for healthy recipes and tips on eating right.

The health center will also hold a free produce event in Lincoln on Aug. 16 and in Indian River on Aug. 17.

Malinda Amlotte, the center’s community outreach and marketing manager, said she was happy to be able to help the community eat healthier.

She said it can be a financial struggle to eat healthy, but this free event is a great way to help people make healthier choices.

“We are really excited to offer this to the community,” she said.

This week will be the 40th year the Alcona Health Center has been in service, and they are offering a variety of upcoming events and services to commemorate the anniversary.
