POSEN — Posen Consolidated Schools made a bit of a transformation for part of the day Friday.

The school hosted Fitness Frenzy for students. Teacher and organizer Karrie Abbitt said there were six different exercise and nutrition stations setup for the students to try.

“We started at 8:30 a.m. and it runs until 11. We have six stations set up today and we’re very excited and happy and have a lot of sponsors that were kind enough to donate money so we can purchase new textbooks to help cover the things we need help with in the classroom. That’s what it’s all about,” Abbitt said.

In order to raise money for textbooks the students had to collect pledges and for every $10 worth of pledges the student’s name was put in for prize drawings.

Nora Kowalksi, 8, said she had a lot of fun.

“Because it’s fun knowing these different kinds of things they’re making students try,” she said.

Her friend, Molly Chappa, said her favorite station has been the rock climbing station.

“It’s really good for you to do exercises and people earn things and have fun with their friends at school,” Chappa said.

Senior Kaylee Bell, 18, was walking around and taking photos of the different stations, which included martial arts, belly dancing, musical chairs, football and dance lessons. There was even a hydration station with healthy snacks and water for between the exercises.

“It’s good because we have all the different exercises and the fruit stand helps them eat healthy,” Bell said.

Teacher Connie DeRocher said the kids really enjoy getting out of the classroom to be active. “Learning about different ways to be active in the community, different ways to be healthy at home is good as well. We’re really enjoying our day,” she said.
