College conducts budget workshop

ALPENA — The Alpena Community College Board of Trustees conducted a budget workshop before its regular board meeting Wednesday.

“We will continue to have challenges I plugged in 2 percent raises in state aid. I also plugged in the numbers of our contracts,” Vice President of Administration and Finance Richard Sutherland said. “It’s going to have a lot to do with hoping folks will retire and not fill those positions. Otherwise we have to do some serious transfers. I kept maintenance (fund) level so there could be some area we could play with if we needed to in 2020, 2021.”

The general fund so far has projected revenues of $14,236,289 and expenses at $14,236,289 as well.

Some of the largest expense changes included an increase in technology services of 40,000, the addition of police presence of $40,000 and salary increases.

“Is there always a chance for additional revenue and this is also a worst case scenario. If extra things come in it would make it all better,” board Chairman John Briggs asked.

Sutherland said it’s possible.

College President Don MacMaster sakd he didn’t work in any state aid increase

“There’s going to be some increase, it’s not nailed down what that will be,” MacMaster said.

The 2018-19 budget must be adopted in June.
