Sen. Pat Colbeck, R-Canton, made a stop to visit with Alpena residents, Thursday. Colbeck is one of four GOP candidates for governor and has received criticism for his unproven claim that Democratic hopeful Abdul El-Sayed’s family has connections to the Muslim Brotherhood. When asked by The News what his response to GOP Spokeswoman Sarah Anderson’s email stating: “The party isn’t interested in peddling conspiracy theories and we categorically condemn any sort of hate speech, regardless of the source.” Colbeck said, “They’re misinformed and we’re going to do our best to inform them.”
