Sanctuary to recruit new members

ALPENA — The Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council would like to recruit new members. Members can be from the fishing, higher education, tourism/recreation, maritime industry/business, and citizens at-large.

The council provides the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries with advice and recommendations on the management of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

The advisory council is composed of 15 members and 15 alternates. Five seats represent local community governments, and the other 10 represent facets of the sanctuary community. The council meets twice a month, with informal coffees and lunches scheduled for non-meeting months. Work groups meet as needed.

The 15 alternates also take an active role in council meetings as well. They assist with many volunteer assignments throughout the year.

Applications are due by Feb. 28. Applications not received or postmarked by Feb. 28, will not be considered.

For more information, including a copy of the application, please visit the Advisory Council Recruitment webpage at or contact Thunder Bay’s Advisory Council Coordinator Jean Prevo, with questions.
