Gauthier takes seat as new Alcona commissioner
HARRISVILLE — Dan Gauthier, a Caldonia district Republican, is the newest member on the Alcona County Board of Commissioners, replacing Kathleen Vichunas. Gauthier will finish Vichunas’ term after she took the position of Caldonia Supervisor.
The former owner of G and G Construction, Gauthier is now retired after beginning the business in 1988. He has served on the Alcona County Board of Review for over eight years, and served as chair on the Black River Watershed Council among other boards.
The term ends in November and Gauthier said he hopes to run for re-election after the term is up.
“I think working with Caldonia District 1, I am really going to strive to bring broadband Internet service to a lot of areas in the township that don’t have access,” he said “Alcona has a lot of great vacation homes that have no access to Internet whatsoever, so I want to see if we can’t get some type of service, whatever we can do to enhance Alcona County as a place to live.”
Gauthier, a native of Alcona County, lives in Black River with his wife. His family has lived in Alcona County for over 100 years. He has three sons and five grandchildren.
“Now that I am retired and I have time. I have inter connections with townships and throughout the county,” Gauthier said. “And working with the health and building departments I could bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the board. Working with people is really easy for me and I would be a good asset to the board.”
