Car plunges into credit union window
ALPENA — Two people were injured after a car crashed into the Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union on Monday.
The crash happened around 12 p.m. at the credit union located on Bagley Street in Alpena Township.
Alpena Township Fire Department Capt. Ken Piper said the driver of the car refused medical care.
Two employees inside the credit union when the crash happened were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
“Basically the driver was attempting to back out, thought it was in reverse, hit the gas. When it started going forward she panicked and stayed on the gas until the front wheels got over the edge and couldn’t drive anymore,” he said.
Credit union officials said they don’t plan to close because of the accident.
Piper said the credit union will have to be boarded up and a contractor will have to take a look at the extent of the damage.
The fire department was assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police.
