AMA ESD makes board appointment for Atlanta school board

ALPENA — The Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District Board of Education appointed Cody Stevens to the Atlanta Community Schools Board of Education during its meeting on Thursday.

Stevens has three children in the Atlanta school district and told the AMA ESD board that he is familiar with the struggles of a small community.

“I’m excited to become part of the Atlanta school board,” he said. “I think we’re in a good position to make a lot of changes in Atlanta. Those changes will be positive and will have a positive impact on the students. I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Stevens already has plans on what he wants to do to help the school district.

“I really want to help the renovations and make sure they continue to run smoothly and be completed on time,” he said. “I also want to help further our children’s education.”

Before interviewing for the position, Stevens talked with Atlanta school board members about what the board position would entail.

“I asked them about the process, how much time commitment it was going to be and things like that,” Stevens said. “They were all pretty helpful with making this decision.”
