The Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots are both over $300 million each and those who play the games have two chances to hit riches before the end of the year.

The Mega Millions, which changed from $1 per ticket to $2 earlier this year, now has an expected jackpot of over $306 million jackpot. That drawing is today. The Powerball stands at $384 million as of Thursday and that drawing is Saturday.

“If god wants me to win, all I need is a $1 ticket,” said Delmor Wieschowski, who was buying a scratch-off ticket and Powerball ticket Thursday.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million and odds of winning the Mega Millions is 1 in 302 million.

The largest jackpot won in Michigan was $337 million in 2012, the seventh largest jackpot in the U.S., by a Lapeer native who immediately retired and told his family to do the same.

“We see higher sales around this time of year, especially when the Powerball and Mega Million is hot. I’ve only sold a $200 winner from a scratcher. If I won the jackpot I would buy a house and set up college funds for my kids,” Melissa Faircloth said.

To gamble responsibly and avoid a gambling addiction, the Michigan Lottery website advises to use gambling as entertainment not a way to make money and limit the amount of money spent to match the amount you can afford to lose.

The chance to win any game is the same and cannot be altered through methods of use of same numbers or knowing last winning numbers.
