RC group sets up fundraiser

ROGERS CITY — As the coldest months arrive, those most vulnerable to the temperatures will need help to stay warm.

In order to provide children in need of coats, hats, gloves and other winter gear the Rogers City Fire Association has organized a fundraiser.

The event takes place from 5-9 p.m. Monday at Scill’s Grill, 351 N. Bradley Hwy. in Rogers City.

The firefighters will work as celebrity servers, dishwashers and busers, organizer Ashley Leow said.

She said the restaurant will open its doors for the event — it’s normally closed on Mondays — and 100 percent of the tips earned will go toward the winter purchases.

“Last year we donated some of our money to take care of these kids. Walmart was gracious to put toward $100. Last year we were able to get proper attire for a few kids. This year we want to help more of them,” she said.

She said they put a word in with Rogers City Area Schools because school officials will know the children who need the gear.

Most of the department will be involved, Leow said. The only thing they won’t do is cook, that will be still be left up to the professionals, she said.

“Scott (Schroeder) from Scill’s Grill is amazing. They’re going to match our highest tipper to help the cause as well as hosting us and putting on. There will be a limited menu, since it will be kind of hectic and hard,” she said.

Leow said they hope to help as many children as possible.

“Come over, hang out with us, laugh at us and give us a hard time,” she said
