ROGERS CITY — The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is the one play where people can see all the fairy tales at once.

The play will show at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 to Saturday, Dec. 2 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3.

“It is a conglomeration of the 209 stories of the Brothers Grimm. It’s this big crazy mess of stories with the original brothers Grimm ending. So people die violently but in a comical way in this play. It’s as silly as possible. Everything is skewered gently,” said Director Julie Riddle.

She said there isn’t one particular lead for the play. She added people play multiple roles, there is audience participation and re-tell some of the well known stories. The ensemble cast is made up of 15 kids, she said.

This is the second year Rogers City Community Theater has brought back a program strictly for high school aged children.

“I’m not sure how long a gap it’s been. I’m guessing about 10 years. They had a strong theater program. It died because they lost funding and people who were integral to it. So it just died for awhile. But I’m on the board of the Rogers City Community Theater. We felt like it’s important to give these kids an opportunity to do something like that and have it in their lives,” Riddle said.

Abbey Mulka, 16, said she’s happy to be back for this production. She said she loves Riddle as a director because she’s nice, funny and easy to work with.

Ashley Nowicki, 17, is back again for this season’s play.

“I’ve been doing it since I was eight years old. So it’s part of my life,” she said.

It’s been an exciting time for the kids to reboot the theater program, Nowicki said.

“I’m sad we didn’t get to start it earlier in my high school career . But I’m glad we got to be part of it for the two years,” she said.

Miranda Seiter, 17, was happy to be a part of the production since she moved from Grand Rapids.

“I just moved up here last year and that was the start to this whole thing and I wanted to expand my friend group,” Seiter said.

Tickets to the Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon cost $12 for adults and $6 for students.

They can be purchased at the theater, 257 N. 3rd Street.
