Board of ed approves contract with MLI

ALPENA — The Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District Board of Education approved to enter into a contract of $6,500 with the Michigan Leadership Institute (MLI) to facilitate strategic planning with the AMA ESD.

Superintendent Scott Reynolds said that the last time the ESD underwent the process of strategic planning was in 2008.

Strategic planning is a process that can guide AMA to develop district goals and policies. The information will be used to focus energy and resources to insure that AMA is working with the community toward better outcomes for children.

Board members, staff, those responsible for plan implementation, and key stakeholders will be involved in the development and review of the strategic plan.

MLI has established a strong reputation for the quality of its planning services and MLI will facilitate the planning process.

The board also approved a resolution to impose 2018 summer tax collections in Alcona County and the City of Alpena.

Each year, the board enters into agreements with the taxing units in Alcona County and the City of Alpena. The agreements are for a 100 percent levy in those geographic areas.

The resolution will permit the board to continue its collection practices in the Alcona County and will authorize the administration to negotiate again with the City of Alpena for collection of 100 percent levy of the ESD levy.
