Hillman man arrested following drunk driving crash

HILLMAN — A Hillman man was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing an incapacitating injury, according to a press release issued by troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post.

The arrested came after a Saturday crash where a 20-year-old passenger riding with the Hillman man was injured and sent to the hospital. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m., according to troopers.

According to the release troopers were dispatched to the one-vehicle personal injury crash that occurred near the intersection of Klein and Slieff roads. Troopers said the Hillman man lost control of his vehicle, ran off the roadway on the south side of Klein Road, and struck a tree at the passenger side of the vehicle.

The injured passenger was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena via the Hillman Ambulance Service.

It was determined by troopers, according to the release, that the driver had been drinking alcohol prior to the crash and was arrested after he was administered field sobriety tests at the crash scene. He was not injured.
