NEMCSA to hold open enrollment event on public services

ALPENA — An open enrollment event on different services offered by the Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency will take place today at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Building.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to NEMCSA Outreach and Communication Coordinator Frances Whitney.

She said potential clients can come to the event and learn about opportunities offered by the organization. Whitney said some of the needs including finding a place to live or affordable rental housing; affordable home ownership; help paying gas, electric or other heating bills; food assistance and home winterization.

The open house events were created last fall to showcase different services offered by NEMCSA, Whitney said.

“We’re trying to go into our core counties and be more available and visible and to see that the needs are met,” she said. “We have done it in two or three counties.”

According to Whitney, potential clients can meet with representatives to find out what programs will be available and then do official enrollment and registration later. She said visitors do not need to bring any special paperwork to the event.

Whitney said that people who can not attend the event can find the right department to schedule an appointment at a later date by visiting the organization’s website at www.nemcsa.org.
