Council approves 2017 meeting schedule with one exception

ALPENA — Alpena Municipal Council met Monday night for a brief 15 minute meeting in which there was minimal agenda items to address.

The council voted to approve the 2017 meeting schedule with only one minor change for the month of July.

There was a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 5, the day after Independence Day, but the council decided to hold the meeting at its regular day, Monday, and at the new time, 6 p.m.

“I think we need to be as consistent as possible and Monday is not a holiday, so I think we should probably have it then,” Nowak said.

Mayor Matt Waligora, council members Mike Nowak, Susan Nielsen and Shawn Sexton voted to hold the meeting on July 3, while councilwomen Cindy Johnson voted to hold it on July 5.

In other business:

* the council voted to pay bill totaling $439,118.

* voted to a budget amendment for repair of dock conduits at the marina.

* voted to recognize Hope Shores Alliance as a non-profit organization in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license.

* voted to renew the contract of L&N Disposal to provide and empty dumpsters for the city and to empty trash receptacles and supply trash liners. The new deal is for three years.

The next council meeting is Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. at city hall in the council chambers.
