Lions hear from vice district gov.

President Scott Foerstner welcomed and introduced Vice District Governor Gordon Harris of Central Lake at last week’s meeting of the Alpena Lions Club. VDG Harris conducted the annual official visit meeting of District 11E2 to the Alpena Lions.

He reported that the clubs in District 11E2 were doing fine. He reported on the success of the traditional Lions club projects, such as supporting blind and deaf citizens and citizens with sight and hearing problems. And he reported on a number of other successes of the local Lions clubs.

He next reviewed some problems today in the operations of District 11E2. Not enough local Lions are stepping forward to lead the district. He urged the Alpena Lions to step forward and provide this leadership.

VDG Harris also presented a number of awards to the Alpena club. And in conclusion, he presented three awards to three Lions for their continuing good service. These awards were presented to Gordon Nethercut for 55 years of service, to Mike Hamilton for 20 years of service, and to Paulette Roznowski for 10 years of service.

Society to hold Evening of Tales

The Language Society of ACC is organizing “An Evening of Tales from Around the World: An Homage to Diversity.”

Speakers will share international stories from the land of their ancestors. In particular, the presenters will speak on the lives of their ancestors and/or their knowledge of life in other countries. Some stories may have passed down from generation to generation, or are first-hand knowledge. Anyone willing should submit his or her tale to Dr. Karol Walchak; she will coordinate the speakers. All members of the community and outlying areas are invited to speak and attend. If you know people who have tales to tell and cannot present the stories themselves, feel free to speak for them. The format of the event is open mic. Handouts are welcome.

Members of The Language Society will be holding a bake sale and selling refreshments. All proceeds will go toward a 2019 trip to Europe for students of Alpena Community College.
