Lions Club hears from Alpena FD critical care medic
Tyler Suszek of the Alpena Fire Department was the speaker at last week’s meeting of the Alpena Lions Club. Suszek serves as a critical care medic. Bernie Lamp III was the program chair for the meeting.
Describing the background of his profession, Suszek said the Alpena Fire Department has 27 members. The department also provides ambulance and critical care services for all of Alpena County and much of Presque Isle County. It also provides ambulance transfer services from our Alpena hospital to other hospitals, for example, to hospitals in Saginaw and at the the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Critical care medics also provide educational services. Suszek spoke of the history of ambulance services in the whole United States. He said after 9-11 great improvements in these services took place.
On Oct. 17, the Lions for the first time held their annual Hobo Dinner and Silent Auction at the Antique Tractor Club on French Road. This event included Lions spouses and friends. Mike Centela, PDG Dave Zeller and Tom Woizeschke were the chairs for this event, and they also were the cooks.
