Rock and Country Show Saturday

ALPENA — Take a trip down south without leaving town Saturday at the 12th Annual Solution Concert, to support those in our area dealing with cancer.

This Southern Rock and Country show featuring four local bands will benefit Friends Together Alpena.

“The money is always used to help people along their cancer journey with traveling, lodging and support groups,” said Shelly Gibbons, lodging, transportation and fundraising coordinator at Friends Together.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for this 7 p.m. concert at the APlex. Tickets are $10, whether purchased in advance or at the door. Advance tickets are available at Friends Together or Neiman’s Family Market.

Each year, a new theme is selected for the show and music is planned around that theme.

“They play a variety of music,” Gibbons said of the bands, which include High Speed, MLM Trio, ORANGTIKETS, and North Country Burnouts. “They play different types of songs based on the theme for that year.”

All the bands volunteer their time to play at this event, said Stacy Roznowski, who has been organizing the event since its inception.

“I’ve had a lot of friends and family members who have been affected by cancer, and this is just our way of giving back,” Roznowski said.

She leads a group of volunteers who put on the concert each year.

Gibbons explained the name of the concert, stating “The solution is helping people with cancer.”

The event is sponsored by McWilliams Funeral Home.

“Friends Together is a nonprofit organization of caring people who offer cancer support and assistance so that no one in our community will have to deal with cancer alone,” a press release stated.
