Power plant talk at BCM

Courtesy Photo Earl Elowsky Senior is seen working on power lines for the power company he owned and operated.

The Rev. Earl Elowsky will present One Man Power Company: Hillman Light Power and Water Company, 1911-1955 at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Brush Creek Mill.

Harnessing the water of Thunder Bay River, the power plant generated 240 horsepower. Its two belt-driven generators ran themselves as Earl Elowsky Senior busied himself with a score of jobs. He set his own telephone poles, maintained 10 miles of wire, made service calls, read meters, sent bills, rewound generators, set transformers and even built his own roads to get his truck into out-of-the-way places.

This event was rescheduled from earlier this month.
