Registration open for Jingle Bell run

The 1st Annual Besser Museum Jingle Bell Run will be held Friday, November 23, right before the holiday parade.

Deck yourself out in Christmas style and join the Besser Museum in kicking off the parade down the Bolenz Jewelry Holiday Parade route at 5:15 p.m. The parade starts at 5:30 p.m. The route is roughly a mile long, the same route as the parade.

Jingle Bell Run registration is being hosted by the Dork Brothers Race Team. For more detailed information and to register for the Jingle Bell Run visit www.bessermuseum.org. All proceeds benefit the Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan. All participants will receive a free pass to visit the Besser Museum Season of Light Exhibit, scheduled to open Nov. 17.

Participants are strongly encouraged to dress in holiday costume. Baby strollers and animals are welcome in the Jingle Bell Run and are strongly encouraged to be decorated.

Awards for the best holiday costumes will be determined by the parade judges and awarded at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony immediately following the parade.

Registration opens at 4 p.m. at the Alpena Yacht Club on Prentiss Street (by the Bandshell) All participants should park at the yacht club, then at 4:45 p.m. they will be bussed from the yacht club to the Alpena County Annex Building parking lot on Ninth Avenue for the Jingle Bell Run.

Participants will leave the Annex Building parking lot ahead of the parade when the jingle bell chimes at 5:15 p.m., running or walking onto Ninth Avenue, turn left onto Chisholm Street, down the Chisholm Street parade route, turn left onto Second Avenue, right onto Water Street and finish behind Alpena City Hall within walking distance to the yacht club where participant vehicles are parked.

Cost for the Jingle Bell Run before Nov. 22 is $5 for students, $10 for adults, or $25 per family.

Same day registration on Nov. 23 at the Alpena Yacht Club is $10 for students, $20 for adults, or $40 per family.

All early registrations will receive a Dork Brothers winter chuke (hat) or running gloves.

For the safety of all runners, bicycles, rollerblades, and skateboards are not allowed on the course as a part of the race.
