Lions Club members updated on activities at all levels
PDG Dave Zeller updated the Alpena Lions Club on the activities of Lions International at the recent club meeting. He led a discussion of Lions activities at the international level, the state level and the District 11E2 (local) level.
There is lots going on at all levels. In addition, he updated the club about the other local Lions Club, the Alpena Evening Lions Club.
Zeller noted that the Lions are providing disaster relief all over the world and that the large part of current Lions growth takes place in foreign countries. At the state level, current projects continue to include: Bear Lake Camp, Michigan All-State Band (which performs annually at the International Convention), KidSight Hearing Program (each district has a trailer), Leader Dogs for the Blind (in Rochester, where training a leader dog costs $40,000), and the Eversight Program (which includes the Michigan Eye Bank, eye transplants and research).
A great need, Zeller reported is for Lions to fill district offices in District 11E2.
In conclusion, he asked everyone to continue to invite service-minded friends and neighbors to join the club.
On Oct. 2, the Lions gathered at the Alpena Antique & Steam Engine Club on French Road for their annual Hobo Dinner. In addition to the dinner, funds were raised through a silent auction and a white elephant sale. The food was prepared and served under the leadership of PDG Dave Zeller, President Mike Centela and Mike Hamilton. They also supervised the other events.
