VFW Post #6754 Auxiliary conducts final business meeting

National Headquarters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary required that the William F. Moore VFW Post #6754 Auxiliary president notify all life and annual members of the cancellation of the auxiliary, effective Oct. 19, as well as the requirement to hold a final regular meeting.

A letter was sent to 62 members advising them that a regular meeting would be held at the Sanborn Township Hall on Sept. 4, where 12 members were present.

Auxiliary President Kathy Vichunas read the National VFW Auxiliary’s letter advising that they received Special Order No. 21 cancelling the charter. In accordance with the national bylaws, the VFW Auxiliary was permitted 60 days to finalize its business before being cancelled by the national president.

Vichunas advised members to transfer their membership to a nearby VFW Auxiliary before the final date of Oct. 19. Members not transferring will automatically be transferred to the status of a department member-at-large. The treasurer, Sandy Light, provided copies of the membership/member transfer application to the members present.

In addition, the treasurer advised that there is still an outstanding check which was issued in July as a memorial for Laura (Pat) Eller. The check was misrouted and will be returned to the treasurer, who will reissue the check to Laura Eller’s family.

Vichunas advised the members that she received a list of property that must be returned to the Department of Michigan. She will collect the items requested and will coordinate the transfer of the auxiliary property along with the post property to the District 11 president and commander.

Norma Alstrom commented on the long association of the auxiliary and what an enjoyable experience it has been.

Vichunas thanked the members for allowing her to serve as the auxiliary president for VFW Post #6754 since 2003.
