Drawing workshops offered

Professional artist Erwin P. Lewandowski will be conducting seven drawing workshops this summer at the Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan. The workshops are appropriate for students ages 12 and up as well as adults.

Participants will be able to choose from three different levels: Introduction to Drawing, Intermediate Drawing or Advanced Drawing. Those interested may sign up for just one workshop or a combination of them.

Introduction to Drawing is designed for students of all ages who have an interest in learning some of the fundamentals of working with graphite pencils and colored pencils.

This 4-hour program will include sketching exercises, an intro to basic drawing techniques and simple strategies for using colored pencils. There will also be a short intro to developing and creating compositions.

Workshop dates are:

∫ June 19, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

∫ July 24, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

Cost is $40 per class.

Intermediate Drawing is designed for students of all ages (starting at age 12) who have achieved a basic understanding of drawing practices. The agenda consists of drawing exercises using graphite, pigment ink liners and colored pencils. Participants will be introduced to a wide range of drawing techniques through a series of planned exercises, learn some of the strategies for working with graphite and color, and develop a sense for creative compositions.

Workshop dates are:

∫ June 26, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

∫ July 31, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

∫ Aug. 14, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

Cost is $50 per class.

Advanced Drawing is designed for students who possess good skills and an understanding of drawing practices with graphite and/or colored pencils. The agenda will focus on the use of specific techniques (mapping, color use options, and pushing colors and edges to achieve maximum depth within drawings) and strategies (focal point identification, structure order, cropping and best practices for working with elements) to help develop composition drawings.

∫ Aug. 7, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

∫ Sept. 11, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

Cost is $60 per class.
