The Association of Lifelong Learners at Alpena Community College is celebrating it 20th anniversary by hosting a luncheon event on June 28 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the ACC Besser Technical Center Commons area.

The organization is still primarily operated by volunteers with a part-time office manager located in the Briggs Center on the ACC campus.

Numerous studies of shown that learning and exercising keeps a person’s cognitive skills functioning better over their lifetime.

Program topics cover a diverse range of topics such as current economics and legal matters to painting and computer technology. Activities include contract bridge, pickleball, writing workshops, camera club, learning to play the ukulele and line dancing.

Over 1,000 residents from Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties have been members of ALL over the 20-year timeframe. Typically 250 to 300 people are members each year.

Intermixed with the programs and activities are opportunities for social events with movable feast events where participants sample local restaurants or attend regional live theaters, along with the quarterly Happenings.
