Alpena Lions hear about city planning and development
Speaking to the Alpena Lions Club at one of their weekly noon meetings was Adam Poll, Alpena’s planning and development director. Much of the work that he is doing among other things, involves managing the long term plan which is a 20-year comprehensive plan; overseeing the recreation plan, which is updated every five years; and handling the capital improvement plan, which links the budget with the plans.
Poll credited and thanked the many community members who volunteer and help accomplish many of the projects. Recent grants that have been instrumental in the improvements of the city were used for the demolition of the old Alpena Power building, work at The Owl, rental development and the beautification of the downtown.
One of the soon to be finished projects is the Splash Pad at Starlite Beach, due to be ready by the 4th of July. The Dog Park is almost completed, just waiting for the grass to grow, making it ready to be opened in late August. The mural at the DDA Park is being replaced.
More signage on the Bi-Path is something that the community will see in the near future. How to make the city a more walkable place is also one of the projects that is being contemplated.
A community survey will be ready in the near future. Poll is encouraging residents to look for this as it becomes available and to take advantage of this opportunity to have their voices heard. Lion Al Guest was program chair.
