POSEN – Four scholarship finalists and their parents will be guests of honor at the Hunter Heritage and Scholarship Awards Banquet to be held March 3 at the Posen Community Center, 10813 N. Michigan Ave.

The banquet is sponsored by the Presque Isle Turkey Trackers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30 p.m.

The finalists include Brady Chojnacki, Cami LaTulip, Faith Romel and Noelle Strzelecki. The awards will be presented at the banquet. Veterans and all emergency responding personnel present also will be honored during the event.

The banquet is an opportunity for friends to get together before the start of the spring turkey hunting season on April 23. More importantly, the event raises funds for scholarships and local wildlife habitat improvements for winter wildlife feeding, including deer, turkeys and other wildlife.

The chapter also provides low cost seed (round-up ready corn and soy beans), sunflowers and wildlife seed mixes for local food plots.

This year the chapter provided domestic turkeys to local needy families during the Christmas holidays. It also provided funds for local schools for archery programs and it conducts hunter safety classes in local sportsmen’s clubs.

The Turkey Trackers Chapter also sponsored and conducted a B-B Gun Shooting Contest during the 2017 Posen Potato Festival. A total of 187 young people had a great time shooting for prizes. Many shot for the first time and want to come back next year.

During the upcoming banquet there will be many free door prizes, live and silent auctions, games (including children’s games) and the meal, which will feature desserts and all beverages.

A very limited number of tickets will be available at the door due to catering limitations. Call Lisa at 766-2200, Phil at 766-2495 or Pete at 766-8422 for tickets or more information. Those who purchase tickets by Feb. 24 will receive additional bonus awards.
